Program Note:

Torque for 5-octave solo marimba was written for Dr. Chris Lizak. This muscular piece explores many aspects of marimba technique: motivic permutations, expressive roll techniques and ostinato vamp patterns. Musically, the work is a large fast-slow-fast format which utilizes a collection of notes that closely resemble that of Bartok's "Z-cells".
